The Family

So, Zach's posting a lot of videos here. What are YOU doing?

You can thank a pretty paper making lady :)

ANYWHO- Radiolab had a short podcast entitled Secrets of Success
where Malcolm Gladwell makes some interesting points that i <3.>

Coincidentally, i was thinking about Charles Bukowski while working in the clay studio yesterday. An oldie but a goodie:

so you want to be a writer?

if it doesn't come bursting out of you
in spite of everything,
don't do it.
unless it comes unasked out of your
heart and your mind and your mouth
and your gut,
don't do it.
if you have to sit for hours
staring at your computer screen
or hunched over your
typewriter
searching for words,
don't do it.
if you're doing it for money or
fame,
don't do it.
if you're doing it because you want
women in your bed,
don't do it.
if you have to sit there and
rewrite it again and again,
don't do it.
if it's hard work just thinking about doing it,
don't do it.
if you're trying to write like somebody
else,
forget about it.

if you have to wait for it to roar out of
you,
then wait patiently.
if it never does roar out of you,
do something else.

if you first have to read it to your wife
or your girlfriend or your boyfriend
or your parents or to anybody at all,
you're not ready.

don't be like so many writers,
don't be like so many thousands of
people who call themselves writers,
don't be dull and boring and
pretentious, don't be consumed with self-
love.
the libraries of the world have
yawned themselves to
sleep
over your kind.
don't add to that.
don't do it.
unless it comes out of
your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would
drive you to madness or
suicide or murder,
don't do it.
unless the sun inside you is
burning your gut,
don't do it.

when it is truly time,
and if you have been chosen,
it will do it by
itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you.

there is no other way.

and there never was.

-charles bukowski

Like the books, Watson is always around. Except a bit of odd programming makes him downright creepy.

This just got nominated at the Oscars for best short film. You may have already seen it since I'm usually pretty far behind everyone else when it comes to videos on the interwebs... But just in case. Also, I love you guys!

so my friends and i are in parts of this video because the fundraiser exhibit i organized involved them. Our show was part of the Demise show, the dude talking is my "boss" Faheem. ALSO- if you don't stalk me on FB i'm finally getting mad cash for working at the art center (Programs Coordinator, that's right!) and you can see pix of the fundraiser show "Inside Out" on FB.

Basically, i had my street art friends turn the boards on the walls into art so we could chop up pieces to sell and raise money to replace them. (We had an opening event where he was doing that live painting, we had DJ's on the third floor with other fun things to do and the performances seen in the video were going on the first floor as part of the "Demise" show we were in conjunction with.) We raised $500 for the project, and i just spent last week putting up new boards and dry wall and taping and mudding and painting and have incredible ass and arm muscles now.

annnnnnd we were featured in an article

It's true - Morgan Freeman can really talk about anything, and it would be interesting.

Best verse:

Once I tried I tried run; I tried to run and hide,
But Jesus came and found me and He touched me down inside.
He is like a mounty, He always gets his man
And he'll zap you any way He can - Zap.
...
Clearly no one read these lyrics before they sang them.

There are times when I lose faith in humanity. Faith in all good things. This is one of those times.

I was perusing ITunes, searching for Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" (a piece which was deemed appropriate to play when it was announced President Roosevelt had passed away) and encountered this fantastic review by someone with the handle 'dr.poooo':

(I quote verbatim)

"rad: its like lord of the rings or $hit"

...

I guess on some some level I should appreciate it because at least he liked it. However, I surmise that conclusion from his choice of the word 'rad' which generally conveys a positive connotation. I feel a case can be made that he perhaps didn't like it by comparing it to human feces. One can only guess when attempting to communicating with the natives.

Thoroughly enjoyable short film about a surprisingly terrifying concept.

So, someone out there decided to create a review of Star Wars, Episode One. This is not uncommon. Nor is it uncommon that it is a video review. What *is* quite uncommon though, is that it is a 70 minute well thought out and scripted review that utterly and completely dissects every point of this awful movie and in the same time discusses why Episode IV is the masterpiece it is from the standpoint of creating great cinema. Also, is is hilarious. So, whenever you have some time I HIGHLY recommend watching these.

PS. Language NSFW. Also, a couple times he drifts of on tangents where he is trying to be funny - I did not particularly enjoy these, but don't let these short moments dissuade you from watching the rest of it.
